CCAT Partners With Air Force to Resolve Bearings Issues---Agreement with The United States Air Force and Timken Aerospace

(October 22, 2010)

EAST HARTFORD, CT - Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) has signed a public private partnership agreement with the United States Air Force and Timken Aerospace to address the bearings refurbishment capabilities of the Air Force. CCAT, who works with the United States Air Force as a strategic partner on high priority projects to benefit our national defense, is applying its expertise to resolve sustainment and supply chain issues to establish Level I and II bearing refurbishment capabilities at the USAF Hill and Tinker Air Logistics Centers.

"CCAT is a principal partner in providing the needed expertise to address this significant Air Force priority," said Congressman Larson. "I am proud to support this historic partnership between CCAT, Timken Aerospace and U.S. Air Force as it will facilitate future job growth in manufacturing and provide the technology needed to protect our men and women in uniform."

In 2009, the U.S. Air Force identified bearings as a high priority project and selected key partners. The first phase, which was completed by CCAT, was to conduct Level I and II gap analyses for bearing refurbishment capability at both Hill and Tinker Air Force Bases. The gap analysis results were incorporated into an implementation plan to increase refurbishment capabilities at these facilities.

Ultimately, the public private partnership will establish an organic Air Force Level I and II bearing repair capability, and provide measures for risk mitigation for industrial base issues. This public private partnership agreement represents the first of its kind, due to the magnitude of the document's scope and the impact to multiple systems and centers.

"CCAT is pleased to be a partner in this strategically important project," commented Elliot A. Ginsberg, President & CEO of CCAT. "As part of this effort with the Air Force and Timken Aerospace, we have added our expertise to assist in addressing a priority regarding the U.S. Air Force's asset readiness. As we move forward, future efforts under this agreement will expand and strengthen the effectiveness of our national defense and our domestic supply chain."

Through strategic interactions and planning, such as this agreement, CCAT provides assistance to the United States Air Force and aerospace manufacturing supply chain with high impact results in a variety of manufacturing technology areas.
