Congratulations to Kåre Halvorsen, the 2012 International Boca Bearings Innovation Contest winner for April! His submission, MorpHex part III, is a remotely operated, transforming hexapod robot. It is able to walk with legs and also change into a sphere shape and roll like a ball. Kåre used 36 ball bearings, with 12 bearings in the body core playing a key role to keep the robot in one piece. He also used bearings in each of the 25 servos. With MorpHex part III receiving an overwhelming 4,087 votes, Kåre wins an Apple iPad2 and is now eligible to win a grant check for $10,000 or a 3D printer from Makerbot Industries ($2,500 value). Want a shot at winning as well? Submit your project for consideration! And, as always, please continue to vote for your favorites!
