U.S. Commercial Service
The U.S. Commercial Service (CS) is a division of the Department of Commerce and a partner of WPG. The CS provides SMEs access to a worldwide network with US and territories offices and representatives in foreign U.S. Embassies and consulates.
Reach out to your local field office, explain your specific company needs, and they will get you in contact with a trade specialist who has expertise in your industry.
CS specialists focus on certain industries where U.S. producers have a competitive advantage. Therefore, if your product isn't represented by ann industry team the specialists will still recommend the best markets for your products and offer some details about how competitive your product will be in those markets.
The CS can also find actual vetted buyers for your product in the targeted markets. This is an amazing service because it’s crucial to trust your buyer when trading beyond the reach of your legal system.
There is a fee associated with these buyer-finding services, and this fee will vary depending on your targeted market. For example, it costs less for the CS to find your company a buyer in Canada than in Japan. This charge is mandated as Congress requires the CS recovers a small portion of its operating cost, but this service is still subsidized.
Furthermore, the CS has opened an e-commerce lab in Silicon Valley that aims to team up with eBay and other e-commerce tools/solutions to help SMEs grow their cross-border sales. There’ll be no fees to access the tools. https://www.export.gov/ecommerce
