Baosteel High-grade Bearing Steel Manufacturing Achieved Major Breakthrough

Recently, SKF has formally issued products qualified certificate for Baosteel, and since then, Baosteel has become the global supplier of this kind of high-grade products for SKF.

To supplying for SKF is the highest goal for all bearing steel manufacturing enterprises, which indicates that products quality & management in these bearing steel manufacturing enterprises has reached the world-class level.

Baosteel signed strategic cooperation agreement with SKF in 2009, meanwhile Baosteel started the trial production of Grade 3 high-end bearing steel to supplying for SKF from then on.

Baosteel attached great importance to the trial production, thus to set up the leading group headed by the deputy general manager of Baosteel Jiang Licheng, and also organize the SKF bearing steel research team composed by Special Steel Division, Steel Division, Baosteel Research Institute, Manufacturing Management Department and other departments.

The technology range of Grade 3 bearing steel is narrow with the high demand of process monitoring, especially the strict requirments on metallurgical inclusions, carbide strip, liquid analysis, etc., meanwhile the production is extremely difficult. Based on this, Baosteel research team actively obtained the support from SKF technical experts, and made benchmarking with SKF laboratories to establish SKF bearing steel criterion, besides, they also made implementation of the unified management on quality design, process management, inspection & analysis management and users tracking. In addition, the research team solved various technical problems during the process of trial production in time.

Steel Division Electric Furnace Plant which undertaken the smelting task has closely cooperated with the relevant persons from Baosteel Research Institute, they adopted finite element control model, control plans, train schedules, "nine scheduled"and other technology means & management methods to realise the refinement operation, meanwhile to strengthen test tracking in order to effectively grasp the smelting state. At last, the experts overcame a series of production difficulties, such as, bearing steel casting, inclusions controlling, low-fold, carbide strip and so on after 20 bounds of tests, finally to successfully smelt Grade 3 bearing steel.

At the same time, the rolling mill plant of Steel Division & Special Steel Division made full use of their existing equipment advantages to successfully forge Grade 3K high-carbon chromium bearing steel bars. Bearing steel products from Baosteel have passed the on-site certification made by SKF experts last May.

What's more, Grade 3 bearing steel samples have been sent to SKF last year, and all the technical indicators meet the requirements after multiple rigorous testing.
