Angular Measuring System for Torque Motor Axes (SSD 3)

Angular measuring systems in rotary tables have, in addition to other components, a significant influence on the machining results obtained with a machine tool and thus the accuracy and surface quality of the workpieces. A new magnetoresistive angular measuring system integrated in the bearing is presented that is matched to direct drive, highly dynamic and high precision axes for rotary tables in machine tools.

In comprehensive studies, it was demonstrated that this measuring system has many persuasive advantages itself and shows no significant disadvantages in comparison with high resolution optical measuring systems. There is a wide range of high performance drive components available for rotary tables used in milling and turning operations in a single clamping operation.

This relates in particular to torque motors and the associated inverters and controllers. Rotary table bearing arrangements matched to these applications are also available, for example the series YRTSpeed, with unsurpassed performance data in relation to limiting speed, rigidity and accuracy.
