A traversing drive assembly from Amacoil/Uhing enables an automatic increase or decrease in travel distance without requiring programming or electronic controls. As the drive nut traverses back and forth, a cam attached to the drive actuates a ratchet mechanism which is linked to the end stops. Each time the ratchet is actuated, the stops to move farther apart or closer together in specific increments which the user sets using a numbered dial. As the end stops move, the stroke length changes accordingly.
Particularly useful for winding material onto spools with tapered flanges, the assembly also has application for production/plant managers or machine designers desiring to gradually increase or decrease drive nut travel distance without having to integrate complex, costly controls. Applications include applying adhesives/coatings, spraying and wash downs.
The linear pitch of the traverse drive is adjustable without gear changes or adjustment to motor speed. The pitch control lever on the traverse unit enables variable pitch with a 10:1 turndown range. If roller guides, or other devices mounted to the traversing unit, create moments of overturning force, a linear bearing slide load carrier should be used to support the load. The traverse shaft rotational speed must be at least 10 RPM. Users must assure that the drive shaft in the Amacoil-Uhing assembly rotates in one direction only. Periodic light lubrication of the shaft is the only maintenance required.
