Alstom signed a $33m contract with Brazilian power company Enerplan to supply wind turbines to the Pontal wind project in the South of Brazil scheduled to commence in 2015.
The equipment which is tailored to Brazilian low-wind conditions will be installed in a wind farm located in Viamo and its specifications include the biggest rotor diameter within the 2MV to 3 MV onshore on shore turbine segment.
In an attempt to rejuvenate the country’s economy the manufacturing of the nacelles and the towers of the wind turbines will be produced in Alstom’s new facility at Canoas . Alstom will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the turbines for five years.
The unique 122-metre rotor diameter and swept area of 11,700m2 maximizes energy output so that it capitalizes on return on investment therefore offering new business opportunities from low-wind sites.
