Last week, ABMA and brand owner representatives visited three Ports of Entry in Texas. These visits are part of comprehensive engagement with U.S. government to attack the issue of counterfeit bearings that includes a Customs Education Program created in 2010 to ensure that Customs Ports are aware of the critical issues surrounding counterfeit bearings and share tools and points of contact that can be used by enforcement teams to attack this issue and stop counterfeits from entered the U.S. borders.

Over three days, ABMA President Scott Lynch presented with Gus Kontonickas from NSK and Dan Szoch from Timken at the Ports of Dallas, Houston and Laredo. At each location, many of the participants had no idea there was counterfeit problem in the bearing industry. Based on the trainings, ABMA was pleased to hear that each location will prioritizing bearings locally.

Earlier this year, ABMA presented at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at the Customs Fraud Investigation Course and visited Ports of Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, SC. The association is planning one more training session at the Port of Buffalo, NY.
