ABB to support power reliability in Vietnam
ABB has signed contracts with the Vietnamese power company Central Power Corporation (CPC) for the supply of SCADA/DMS (Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition/Distribution Management System) software to Pleiku and Tam Ky in Central Vietnam. The solutions will help improve power supplies for the approximately 250,000 inhabitants of these cities.
The systems will enable real-time monitoring and control of the grid condition and will gather data to enable quick detection of possible outages, allowing immediate decisions to be taken to improve overall grid reliability. Optimizing the power network and improving power reliability is one of the four key components of the 10-year roadmap for smart grid development laid out by the Vietnamese Government in 2012. ABB has previously supplied similar systems to the cities of Da Nang, Hue, Qui Nhon and Buon Ma Thuot, already improving power reliability for more than three million Vietnamese people.
The Vietnamese economy is set to be the second most dynamic Asian growth economy during 2016, following India, with an expected seven percent growth rate, based on a Bloomberg report. Energy consumption in Vietnam has been increasing by about 10–12 percent per annum in recent years.
“Vietnam is among the fast growing economies in Asia and power supplies will continue to play a key role in supporting economic growth” said Massimo Danieli, Managing Director of ABB’s Grid Automation business unit, a part of the company’s Power Grids division. “This project supports our Next Level strategy focus on emerging economies, and it is another example of ABB’s software solutions enabling enhanced grid automation and improving the quality and reliability of power supply for millions of consumers.”
ABB’s SCADA system is designed for complete functionality for real-time monitoring and control of primary and secondary equipment in transmission and distribution substations. It allows for the right actions to be taken at the right time and therefore achieving maximized availability of the power system.
