GCiS China Strategic Research has published a study of the China market for sliding bearings. This study covers seven types of sliding bearings that make up most of the domestic market. An analysis was conducted on the markets for these components in the four biggest end user industries, namely automotive, construction, agriculture and shipbuilding. Over 80 key manufacturers, both foreign and domestic, distributors and channel players were interviewed in the course of this study; these were carried out between Q3 2009 and Q4 2009.
The study finds that growth in this industry is directly tied to increased capital spending and investment in the heavy industry sectors, particularly in markets such as construction and automotives. This has led to very high growth rates from 2007 to 2008 which approach 20%. While this should be lower in the coming years due to the effects of the economic slowdown in 2008-2009, growth rates are expected to still be above 10%.
The market is highly concentrated as large foreign firms hold the majority of market share by revenue by virtue of higher quality products and the higher prices they command. Demand for these will increase depending on the modernization of some of the end user industries that still lag behind technologically. Currently the market faces a clear divide between the higher end products of foreign companies and the very low end domestically produced components that make up most of total output.
While demand for sliding bearings will continue to grow along with investment in the end user industries there is a risk of overcapacity where demand will lag behind supply if this investment is timed too early.
