Recently, a new type of permanent magnetic bearing centrifugal pump was successfully developed by Jiangsu University. The device has low vibration and noise which is is less than 40 dB in the model test due to no mechanical contact and friction between the rotor and the pump. The researchers have been invited to introduce the study in October at annual meeting of the 13th International Magnetic Bearing Society in America.
According to Qian Kunxi, the professor at National pump and system engineering technical center of Jiangsu University, the innovative device driven by ordinary three-phase AC motor through magnetic coupling break the traditional mechanical rotation theory and mode of "shaft is a must for rotation, and bearing is a must for shaft.". With no spindle and tangible bearing on the rotor and the shape of the impeller quite similar to the alien UFO, it is in full suspension and stable rotation under pure permanent magnetic force.
Qian Kunxi said, the biggest advantage of permanent magnetic bearing is that it can solve the durability problems during the use of mechanical bearings. With no mechanical wear, no lubrication and sealing within the permanent magnetic bearing centrifugal pump, it has long service life.
The related experts said that the successful application of permanent magnet bearing on the centrifugal pump, showing the feasibility, reliability and repeatability of permanent maglev technology, and has broad application prospects in the field of defense, biomedical engineering.
